The third triennial conference of the Ghana Studies Association, “Ghana As Center,” will bring scholars of Ghana together at the University of Ghana from the 10th to 13th of July 2019.
From its inception, the mission of the GSA has been to nurture a community of scholars of Ghana that is intergenerational, multidisciplinary, and multilocal. In furtherance of this vision, GSA instituted the triennial conference in 2013, becoming the first African Studies Association’s affiliate organization to host a conference on the African continent.
“Ghana as Center” will be our largest and most dynamic conference; we expect over 200 participants—researchers, artists and activists–from West Africa, North America and Europe engaging in different forms of intellectual engagement around the question, ‘What will it mean for Ghana Studies to place Ghana at the center of research?’ We are excited to have on our program papers, performances and visual presentations that recognize Ghana as both unique and global, as a site for methodological innovations and theoretical insights.
Community support is essential for the success of GSA programs, and necessary to ensure that all fees associated with attending “Ghana As Center” remain low for our diverse, global community of scholars, including graduate students and early career faculty.
We invite you to become GSA a conference patron with a contribution of $250 or more, or you may join as a conference co-sponsor with a contribution of $1,000 or more. We will acknowledge your important contribution on both the GSA website and in the conference program.
